Run, Run, Run

Hayden and I just can't seem to get enough running in. This past Thursday was our school's annual "Jogapalooza." It is our big fundraising event and I believe we raised over $35,000 this year. Since I am the PE teacher, I was lucky enough (and I'm being serious about the lucky part) to run with all the grades each time they came out. I had Hayden join me in the last group of the day, and he did a great job running with all the kids. Of course, the pic above shows us running with other teachers, but I promise that we had tons of kids, too. I am not quite sure how many miles I ended up running that day, but it was a lot.

I guess the little bit of sun we had at the moment was just too much for Hayden's eyes.

Chillin' with a powerade after the run.

Saturday, May 21 was the Ogden Marathon. This was definitely not one of my better races. I started to get a cold a couple of days before so I was downing theraflu and other meds the day before and the morning of. I think the combination of being sick, lack of food, and medication is what made me feel worse. My stomach felt awful during the race and I just kept racing to the next port-a-potty conviced that I was going to puke or something.

After the race is a much better memory. Here I am with my friend Michelle soaking up some sun and trying to relax and recover a bit.

Kyle came up too and I really appreciated having the extra support. Unfortunately, we drove separately so I did have to drive back home. I swear that my right foot went numb at some point during the drive. I think my shoelaces were too tight and my foot just got tired of pushing the gas pedal.

Hayden Graduates from Preschool

So after three years of preschool, Hayden is ready to move on into kindergarten (just don't tell him that because he gets a little panicky). Last Wednesday night he had his Spring Program and Graduation. The program was dino themed, so the above pic is Hayden-Rex with his T-Rex hat on.

Getting his diploma from his teachers

What a cutie!!!

Hayden with Grandpa Barnes. Unfortunately, my mom was really sick and couldn't make it. Luckily, Bob recorded the program so she could watch it at home. Kyle also came with us and we went to Frogurt afterwards to celebrate.

Mother's Day

Here are the Mother's Day mamas: Brooke, my mom, and I. We had a delicious lunch catered by Rumbi Grill plus pie for dessert. My mom made a key lime pie and I made a double layer lemon pie (both were light, too).

The little guys were good kiddos to sit still long enough (yes, that is a challenge) to pose with their mamas and grandma.

I tried to get this picture of Gage showing Hayden a book, but those boys just move too quickly for me to capture the moment.

Race for the Cure '11

Third year in a row joining thousands of women and men in the race against breast cancer. I was sad to not have Brooke with me this year (she had school) so Hayden was a sport and came with me. We made the whole thing an adventure by riding Trax downtown. Above is a picture of us riding the train (Hayden loved it).

By the time we got there it was about 8 so we headed over to the start area to hangout for a bit. Needless to say, Hayden had very little desire to wear pink, but he did have some on his "Future Heartbreaker" shirt from the Boston Marathon. He is also getting so big and outgrown most of his pants...including the ones he had on that day. However, he didn't want to wear shorts so we had to make jeans work.
Hayden and I walked for the majority of the 5K, but every now and again he decided that we should run. There were moments durning the first mile that he complained that his legs were hurting. After he got some water part way through, he magically started to feel better. Towards the end of the race, Hayden was a good sport and gave all the cute young cheerleaders high fives (yes, my kid can be a little stud sometimes).

Once we made it through the finish, we got some water and oranges and then headed over to the vendor/booth area. We got some free backpacks, Ford scarves (they are popular every year and even the guys wear them), visors, and snacks. Then Hayden's eyes were drawn to the bounce houses, so I let him play there for quite awhile. I had to laugh at the fact that this was the same kid that complained about his legs hurting not too long ago. He bounced and bounced for a long time, and I am amazed at all the energy he had after he completed his first 5K (yay for him btw!).

Since we ended up staying later than planned, we got to watch the survivor parade, too (always such an inspiration to see the survivors in their pink shirts). Then we walked back to Trax and eventually made it home.

Later that day, we went to the park for a picnic with Kyle. We were there for a couple of hours enjoying the wonderful weather and walking through all of Draper Park. All in all, it was a good day!

Happy Easter!

So we got home in time to celebrate Easter. We started by going to a movie, "Rio," on Friday night with Kyle. Hayden must have loved the movie because I only heard sounds of laughter throughout the entire show. Most times he leans over to talk to me because he doesn't like a certain scene or needs a distraction. However, I must say that this movie gets my seal of approval because it completely captivated Hayden.
The following morning, we went to a park in Draper for an Easter egg hunt. Oh my, it was so crowded just to get to any kind of parking, and then there were tons of parents/kids at the park. Once the horn was blown (which was about 15 minutes later than scheduled) the kids and parents swarmed towards the eggs and it only lasted for about 20 seconds. Poor Hayden was so disappointed because he only had time to collect two eggs. I felt so bad for him that we ended up going to Burger King later on for lunch. I think that I am going to avoid the city sponsored hunts next year because they have become overwhelmingly crowded.

After lunch, I had to get the sugar cookies ready and decorated. Then I had to get the Easter cake baked, frosted, and made to look a bunny. Below is Hayden enjoying one of the cookies and looking festive with his bunny ears.

That night, I suggested that Hayden write a note for the Easter Bunny asking how many eggs he should look for in the morning. I thought it would be a good idea for everyone to know (or remember) how many eggs were hidden.

Here is Hayden with the 49 eggs he found on Easter morning.

The bunny filled his basket, and mommy gave him some Easter/summer clothes.

We went to my mom and Bob's house for brunch. My sis, Travis, Gage, and Kyle met us there. We had the breakfast bake that I made, some biscuits, fruit, and the bunny cake.

Hayden got a Spongebob basket filled with lots of goodies. He also got a couple of games, one of which was Mouse Trap. Kyle and I ended up putting the game together, and guess what? We actually got it to work! I don't think that game has changed one bit over the years.

The boys went outside to do an Easter egg hunt. It was so fun to watch them both--especially since this was Gage's first hunt.

Hayden was so spoiled that he even received another Easter basket from Aunt Laurie and Uncle Wayne.
