Race for the Cure '11

Third year in a row joining thousands of women and men in the race against breast cancer. I was sad to not have Brooke with me this year (she had school) so Hayden was a sport and came with me. We made the whole thing an adventure by riding Trax downtown. Above is a picture of us riding the train (Hayden loved it).

By the time we got there it was about 8 so we headed over to the start area to hangout for a bit. Needless to say, Hayden had very little desire to wear pink, but he did have some on his "Future Heartbreaker" shirt from the Boston Marathon. He is also getting so big and outgrown most of his pants...including the ones he had on that day. However, he didn't want to wear shorts so we had to make jeans work.
Hayden and I walked for the majority of the 5K, but every now and again he decided that we should run. There were moments durning the first mile that he complained that his legs were hurting. After he got some water part way through, he magically started to feel better. Towards the end of the race, Hayden was a good sport and gave all the cute young cheerleaders high fives (yes, my kid can be a little stud sometimes).

Once we made it through the finish, we got some water and oranges and then headed over to the vendor/booth area. We got some free backpacks, Ford scarves (they are popular every year and even the guys wear them), visors, and snacks. Then Hayden's eyes were drawn to the bounce houses, so I let him play there for quite awhile. I had to laugh at the fact that this was the same kid that complained about his legs hurting not too long ago. He bounced and bounced for a long time, and I am amazed at all the energy he had after he completed his first 5K (yay for him btw!).

Since we ended up staying later than planned, we got to watch the survivor parade, too (always such an inspiration to see the survivors in their pink shirts). Then we walked back to Trax and eventually made it home.

Later that day, we went to the park for a picnic with Kyle. We were there for a couple of hours enjoying the wonderful weather and walking through all of Draper Park. All in all, it was a good day!
